Life, Social Media, and Hope
Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.

Life
How are you? How is your heart?
What a time to be alive. There are so many atrocities happening around the world. And yet, when you pause and allow yourself to notice the goodness that still exists, you’ll also see so much beauty.
In my recent conversations with clients and friends, I’ve been hearing common themes: hints of despair, waves of anger, and at times, a sense of numbness.
Social Media
We are living in an era where information is constantly at our fingertips. News is delivered to us endlessly—if we choose to receive it.
I strongly believe in staying informed about what’s happening in the world. At the same time, protecting your mental health matters. Be mindful of what you consume and how often you consume it. Awareness is important, but so is balance.
It can be so easy to distract ourselves with scrolling on social media. I often advise clients who are struggling with spending too much time on social media to be intentional. Follow accounts that are doing good; they share actions rather than spread fear. One of my favourite news accounts to follow is Jessica Yellin. She also has a Substack account.
Hope
How do you stay hopeful in times like these? Look for the helpers.
Have you heard about Tracy Wong? She owns a Vietnamese restaurant in Minneapolis. When protesters were running for safety, she opened her doors to shelter them. She offered food and care. In return, her community—and people around the world—have shown their support. Even on her days off, she continues to feed her community, often for free.
Look for the helpers. Then ask them how you can help. Follow Tracy here.
What Can You Do?
When the world feels overwhelming, focus on your immediate community. Start close to home. How can you show up for your neighbour? Do they need help carrying their groceries? Or would you rather go to a protest to support a good cause?
I like to support local small businesses—especially those with family ties to countries impacted by injustice.
There is a new cafe near where we live, owned by an Iranian couple. I go there regularly to have a chat, ask how they are doing, and of course enjoy a cup of latte.
And just as importantly, take care of yourself. You cannot pour from an empty cup.
